Maastricht Aachen Airport processes flower shipments faster than any other European airport, ensuring timely delivery and quality preservation.
Maastricht Aachen Airport has confirmed it processes flower shipments up to twice as fast as other European airports, reported London's Air Cargo Week.
Data collected in 2025 showed that flowers entering Europe via Maastricht reach their destinations in half the time compared to rival hubs. The average handling time at Maastricht is three hours, while other airports take between 3.5 to 6.5 hours.
The airport invested in advanced monitoring technology last year to improve the quality and lifespan of sensitive cargo. Based on 5,000 temperature measurements, officials stated that Maastricht is among Europe's most efficient airports for perishables.
Dean Boljuncic, head of commercial development, emphasized that every minute flowers are exposed to higher temperatures shortens their lifespan. He noted that Maastricht consistently reduces value loss across the supply chain.
Even during peak periods, handling times at Maastricht remain between two and four hours, compared to seven to ten hours at other airports. Thanks to rapid processing and direct motorway access, 80 percent of shipments reach the Aalsmeer auction before closing on the same day.
Mr. Boljuncic stated that the results demonstrate Maastricht is both fast and consistent. He added that advanced monitoring enables real-time tracking and supports the airport's strategy to stand out in time-critical cargo.
With ample capacity, direct motorway access, and minimal waiting times, Maastricht is positioning itself as one of Europe's most reliable gateways for perishable goods.
