Huawei condemns EU's proposal to phase out components from high-risk suppliers, citing discrimination against non-EU firms, reported Reuters.
The European Commission has proposed phasing out components from high-risk suppliers in critical sectors, a move condemned by Huawei, reported Reuters.
The draft revisions to the EU's Cybersecurity Act follow rising cyber and ransomware attacks, as well as concerns over foreign interference, espionage, and reliance on non-EU technology providers. Brussels stated that the measures aim to strengthen resilience in critical infrastructure.
Huawei, expected to be among the companies affected, argued that the proposal discriminates against non-EU suppliers. A spokesman contended that limiting or excluding firms based on country of origin rather than technical standards breaches EU legal principles and World Trade Organization obligations.
The company added that decisions should be based on factual evidence and compliance with technical requirements, not nationality. Huawei asserted that the plan undermines fairness and proportionality in the European market.
