China has accused the European Union and France of imposing discriminatory trade barriers after Brussels fined Alibaba Group's AliExpress EUR550 million (US$628 million), reported Caixin.
The Commerce Ministry expressed strong dissatisfaction with the European Commission's decision and urged regulators to cease the abuse of legal discretion. It also criticized a French law targeting fast-fashion retailers such as Shein and Temu, labeling it a discriminatory measure disguised as environmental protection.
This sharp response underscores the growing friction between China and Europe as regulators tighten oversight of cross-border e-commerce platforms and low-cost imports. Beijing has warned of possible retaliation if these measures continue.
