HMM's Washington United Terminals in Tacoma orders four cranes to boost capacity and enhance logistics services, reported Asia Business Daily.
Washington United Terminals (WUT), operated by HMM at the Port of Tacoma, has signed a contract with HD Hyundai Samho for four new cranes, reported Seoul's Asia Business Daily. The order includes replacements for two aging quay cranes and the addition of two yard cranes.
WUT opened in 1999 and occupies about 510,000 square meters with a 793-meter berth. It has on-dock rail facilities that can handle 26 railcars at once, providing strong inland connectivity and synergy with HMM's US West Coast routes.
The terminal currently operates eight quay cranes and six yard cranes. The new equipment is expected to lift annual handling capacity from 590,000 TEU to 880,000 TEU, enabling operations for larger container ships and strengthening competitiveness.
HD Hyundai Samho will oversee the project from design through commissioning under a turnkey arrangement, with completion scheduled for 2028.
HMM stated that the upgrade reflects its continued investment in port infrastructure to enhance supply chain stability. The company last year signed a cooperation memorandum with India's Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority for the Vadhvan Port project and is expanding Terminal TTIA at Algeciras in Spain.
An HMM representative mentioned that the WUT upgrade aims to provide efficient logistics services to global shippers and reinforce the company's network competitiveness.
