Hai Phong Port reaches 2 million TEU in container throughput for 2026, achieving the milestone two months earlier than in 2025.
Hai Phong Port has reached 2 million TEU in container throughput for 2026. The company achieved this milestone about two months earlier than in 2025, signaling sustained momentum across its container terminals.
The company marked the achievement on the afternoon of October 15 at its Tan Vu Port Branch. The MAERSK NOTODDEN, a vessel operating on the MSK HP2 service route, unloaded the 2 millionth TEU. The ship unloaded approximately 1,788 TEU during the call.
This result reflects the port's organizational and operational capacity, its service quality, and its cooperation with shipping lines and international partners. It also highlights the commitment, solidarity, and drive for innovation of the company's staff and workers.
The milestone follows a strong performance in the first nine months of 2026. Compared with the same period last year, Hai Phong Port reported:
Total consolidated cargo volume: 38.1 million tons, up 27.8%
Container volume: up 30.7%
Consolidated revenue: VND 2,750 billion, up 30.7%
Pre-tax profit: VND 1,443 billion, up 55%
Profit growth outpaced revenue growth. Container volume and revenue rose at the same rate. Together, these figures point to broad, increasingly profitable growth.
Hai Phong Port attributes much of this growth to targeted investment in operating capacity, infrastructure, and market development. Since the start of 2026, the company has carried out several initiatives to strengthen its network:
Dinh Vu channel upgrades: Projects to upgrade the shipping channel serving the Dinh Vu area.
Tan Vu Port renovation: Works that allow the terminal to receive vessels of up to 55,000 DWT operating with reduced load.
New container services: Additional container service routes from MSC and SITC at Tan Vu and Dinh Vu Ports.
HTIT Port operations: Stable operations at HTIT Port in the Lach Huyen terminal area, which strengthen the system's ability to receive large container ships.
Together, these developments expand the port's berth options, vessel capacity, and carrier connections. For freight forwarders, shippers, and importers moving cargo through northern Vietnam, a wider mix of services and terminals offers more routing flexibility. It also supports more dependable vessel schedules for time-sensitive supply chains. Each upgrade is part of a coordinated strategy to raise the port system's overall competitiveness.
Mr. Pham Hong Minh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hai Phong Port Joint Stock Company, credited the milestone to the company's partners and employees.
'The milestone of 2 million TEU is the result of the companionship and trust from customers, shipping lines, partners, and the innovative efforts of all staff and employees of Hai Phong Port,' Mr. Minh said. 'The company will continue to focus on decisively directing solutions to develop throughput, revenue, and profit, striving to achieve the highest possible level of the 2026 plan targets; while simultaneously improving operational capacity, service quality, and the effectiveness of cooperation with shipping lines and strategic partners.'
Hai Phong Port has set a 2026 cargo throughput target of 57.3 million tons. With 38.1 million tons handled by the end of September, the company has completed about two-thirds of its full-year goal. The final quarter remains ahead.
The company remains a key port for northern Vietnam. It is expanding maritime connections, reinforcing its competitive position, and helping Vietnamese goods integrate more deeply into global supply chains. The 2 million TEU milestone is not just a measure of containers handled; it shows a port system steadily positioning itself as a stronger gateway between northern Vietnam and world markets.
