Dense fog in the Dardanelles Strait has reduced visibility, prompting a temporary halt to vessel traffic in both directions as of 08:10.
Due to the dense fog that has been affecting the Dardanelles Strait, visibility has decreased significantly. The Dardanelles Strait Vessel Traffic Services Directorate announced that as of 08:10, transit vessel traffic has been temporarily halted in both directions.
FOG REDUCED VISIBILITY AT SEA
The dense fog, which intensified in the early morning hours in the Dardanelles Strait, has caused disruptions in maritime transportation. Authorities took action after visibility dropped to an insufficient level for safe navigation due to the thick fog that concentrated in the open waters of the strait.
VESSEL TRAFFIC HALTED IN BOTH DIRECTIONS
As a result of planning and assessments conducted by the Dardanelles Strait Vessel Traffic Services Directorate, vessels intending to transit the strait were warned via radio announcements. Captains of vessels preparing to enter from the north and south were informed that as of 08:10, the strait was closed to transit vessel traffic in both directions.
FERRY SERVICES AND TRAFFIC STATUS
While the massive transit vessel traffic in the strait has been completely halted, it has been reported that there are currently no disruptions in the ferry traffic providing local transportation. Authorities stated that vessel traffic would return to normal after the fog dissipates and visibility reaches safe levels again.
