Iran closes the Strait of Hormuz to all vessels after US attacks, with two ships reportedly struck by Iranian forces amid rising tensions.
The Iranian Armed Forces' operational unit, the Hatemu'l Enbiya Headquarters, announced that the Strait of Hormuz has been closed following the United States' attack on areas surrounding the strait.
The Hatemu'l Enbiya Headquarters issued a statement regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
The statement included, 'Due to insecurity in the region, the Strait of Hormuz is now closed to all vessels, including oil tankers and commercial ships, and any passage will be intervened.'
Following the warning, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that it had struck two vessels attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz illegally.
The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that, under the orders of President Donald Trump, it had launched 'legitimate defense' strikes against numerous targets in Iran, with regions in southern Iran becoming the target of U.S. attacks.
Explosion sounds have been reported from the cities of Sirik and Minab near the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian media reported that air defense systems were activated in the western part of the country, in the provinces of Fars and Aseluyeh.
Explosion sounds were also heard in Minab, Bandar Abbas, Kish, and Sirik islands.
In a report by Iran's Mehr News Agency, it was stated, 'Conflicts have also occurred at sea between Iranian and U.S. forces.' U.S. ships near the Strait of Hormuz were struck by missiles and drones launched by Iran.
