DaChan Bay Terminals implements a single declaration for water-to-water transshipments, expediting export shipments and enhancing multimodal logistics.

DaChan Bay Terminals announced on 18 August the successful implementation of the Customs' 'single declaration' procedure for water-to-water transshipments, marking a major milestone in advancing seamless multimodal shipments through the port.

Under this initiative, exporters need to submit only one customs declaration for cargo moving across different customs jurisdictions within the Chinese Mainland, helping shipments reach international markets more quickly.

The inaugural shipment involved a consignment transported by barge from Zhongshan to DaChan Bay Terminals, where it was loaded onto the ZIM NORFOLK for its onward journey to the Mediterranean. The newly launched procedure streamlines the traditional customs clearance process, which previously involved segmented declarations, multiple reviews, and verifications. Shipments from the Pearl River Delta to their final destinations via DaChan Bay are expected to save one to two days in transit time, enabling export goods from western Pearl River Delta cities to connect more efficiently with international shipping services and reach overseas markets faster.

Brian Yeung, Managing Director of DaChan Bay Terminals, said: 'The launch of the single declaration procedure for water-to-water transshipments marks a significant step forward in our efforts to position DaChan Bay Terminals as an efficient and fast gateway for multimodal shipments. Going forward, we will continue to deepen collaboration with the authorities and our shipping line customers to enhance our services and contribute to the export growth of the Greater Bay Area.'

Strategically located at the Pearl River Estuary, DaChan Bay Terminals benefits from an extensive barge service network, making it well positioned to serve as a hub for water-to-water transshipment cargo. More than 100 barge services currently call at the terminal each week, enabling efficient cargo movement between DaChan Bay and other ports across the Pearl River Delta.

DaChan Bay Terminals has also recently launched a number of sea-rail intermodal services, further strengthening network connectivity.
