China's shipbuilding production surged 51.2% in H1 2026, with new orders up 173.1%, solidifying its global leadership in eco-friendly shipbuilding.

China's shipbuilding industry demonstrated strong performance in production, new orders, and order book size in the first half of 2026. According to data released by the China National Shipbuilding Industry Association (CANSI), the country's total ship production reached 36.5 million deadweight tons (dwt) in the January-June period, marking a 51.2% increase compared to the same period last year.

During the same period, new ship orders received by Chinese shipyards increased by 173.1% year-on-year, reaching 121.06 million dwt. As of the end of June, the total volume in the order books of Chinese shipbuilding companies rose by 54.9% to 363.25 million dwt.

The data also revealed that China is strengthening its global leadership in eco-friendly shipbuilding. In the January-June period, Chinese shipyards secured over 68% of the world's green ship orders, reinforcing their dominance in the sector.

Experts indicate that the rising demand for high value-added and environmentally friendly ship production is further enhancing China's competitiveness in the global shipbuilding industry. With this development, China continues to be one of the key centers in the technological transformation of the shipbuilding industry and in sustainable production.
