Cathay Cargo enhances capacity with an A330P2F freighter lease, bolstering Hong Kong's status as a leading air cargo hub.
Cathay Cargo will gain extra capacity with Air Hong Kong leasing an Airbus A330P2F converted freighter to operate regional services, reinforcing Hong Kong's position as the world's leading air cargo hub, reported Cathay's press release.
The aircraft will be deployed mainly on services to the Chinese Mainland and other regional destinations for Cathay Cargo. Air Hong Kong, the first all-cargo airline based in the city and part of the Cathay Group, will operate the freighter.
Cathay Director Cargo Dominic Perret stated that the additional capacity will support growth plans, strengthen the network, and complement future A350F freighters. He emphasized that this move provides greater agility to build the regional cargo network and offers more options for freight forwarder partners.
Air Hong Kong Chief Operating Officer Agatha Lee remarked that the aircraft will help the carrier leverage the Three-Runway System at Hong Kong International Airport to expand its regional presence. She described the addition as an exciting chapter for Air Hong Kong's growth.
The A330 freighter will join Air Hong Kong's fleet in the fourth quarter of 2026 under a long-term lease from Air Transport Services Group Inc. subsidiary Cargo Aircraft Management. Air Hong Kong currently operates 14 A330 freighters providing express services for DHL Express.
Cathay Cargo operates 20 Boeing 747 freighters and also utilizes belly capacity on the Cathay Group's passenger network, serving more than 100 destinations. The Cathay Group has committed over HK$100 billion to fleet, cabin, lounge, and digital innovation upgrades, including orders for more than 100 aircraft across narrowbody, widebody, and freighter categories.
