Airforwarders Association warns DHS shutdown jeopardizes cargo services, urging swift resolution to protect global supply chains.
The Airforwarders Association has warned that the Department of Homeland Security shutdown is creating risks for cargo services, reported the American Journal of Transportation.
The shutdown, ongoing since February 13, has led to more than 300 Transportation Security Administration officers resigning, raising concerns about staffing resilience across the aviation security system.
While passenger checkpoints are most affected, prolonged disruption threatens cargo processing, airport access, and airside efficiency. Freight forwarders rely on predictable operations to manage time-sensitive shipments and customer expectations.
The association stated that cargo security and screening remain robust, but sustained staffing shortages could undermine reliability. Forwarders are already contending with tariff measures and the Middle East conflict.
Industry leaders urged policymakers to resolve the DHS shutdown quickly, restore pay for TSA personnel, and provide stability for businesses dependent on global supply chains.
