LOGISTICS experts and analysts anticipate that the air cargo market's strong performance in the first half of the year will gain momentum in the final months when international shipping typically surges to meet holiday shopping demands, reports New York's FreightWaves.
While e-commerce demand from Asia remains a key growth driver, other factors also boost air shipments.
Despite US and European companies pre-ordering inventory to avoid disruptions like vessel rerouting due to the Red Sea conflict, the general industry outlook suggests that sustained demand will lead to increased transport activity.
However, there is still the possibility that fall orders were simply brought forward, which could dampen future volumes.
Additionally, mixed macroeconomic signals leave economists uncertain about the stability of consumer spending.
'I think you're going to see the trend continuing. There is going to be an increase in volumes [while widebody freighter capacity is constrained] and rates are going to be affected as a consequence,' said Atlas Air CEO Michael Steen.
