ZEROAVIA is receiving support from the Federal Aviation Administration (F) in its efforts to help 'clean up' the aviation industry, reports Seattle's KIRO 7.
The F has awarded the company US$4.2 million to advance the design, fabrication, and testing of its electric motor, aiming for eventual certification for commercial aircraft use.
The funding comes from the F's 'Fueling Aviation's Sustainable Transition' grant programmewhich aligns with the federal goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in aviation by 2050.
Research and development will take place at ZeroAvia's Everett propulsion centre located at Paine Field, which opened in 2022.
The Environmental Protection Agency reports that aviation accounts for nine per cent of transportation emissions and three per cent of overall greenhouse gas emissions in the United States.
