A NEW Liebherr STS quay crane, identical to two other with an outreach of 72 metres, has arrived at DCT Gdansk, Poland's major container port, reports World Cargo News of Leatherhead, Surrey.
The Liebherr STS crane has a back reach of 15 metres and a lift height over rail of 50 metres and are capable of handling vessels with 25 rows of containers across deck.
This addition will augment five previously installed Liebherr STS cranes, provide eight ultra-large container cranes capable of handling the latest and future generations of ULCS mega ships.
The 23,0000-TEU MSC Gulson is 400 metres long and 61.5 metres wide and is the first of 11 vessels ordered by MSC that stack 24 containers across deck.
DCT Gdansk is Europe's fastest growing container port with an impressive 22.2 per cent growth in 2018. Since its inception in 2007, DCT Gdansk has chosen Liebherr STS cranes. The latest crane is the 14th Liebherr STS crane supplied to DCT Gdansk since its foundation.
Said DCT Gdansk CEO Cameron Thorpe: 'We continually invest for the future, so when the future arrives, as it has with this new class of vessel, we're ready for it.'
