YEMEN'S Houthi rebels, aligned with Iran, targeted a cargo ship in the Red Sea, reports Reuters.
The vessel believed to be carrying corn to Iran is the first known instance of the Houthis targeting a ship bound for Iran since they began attacks on international shipping in support of Palestinians during the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza, according to shipping sources.
A US defence official stated that it's likely the ship was targeted but not hit, providing no additional details.
Earlier reports from maritime specialists suggested possible damage to the vessel with no reported casualties.
