VALENCIAPORT has posted the 5.4 per cent year on year increase in January to November throughput to 5,161,440 TEU - back to pre-Covid pandemic levels, reports London's Port Technology International.
In the month of November 2021, a total of 1,002,870 containers left the port's terminals - at a rate of 3,000 units per day. Exports came to 1,091,149 boxes, while imports were 820,328 units.
With these figures in mind, it means that the Spanish port is now the fourth top European port in terms of container handling, having recently overtaken the Greek port of Piraeus in September 2020. Ports of Rotterdam, Antwerp and Hamburg are still leading.
'With regards to the markets which purchase the most products from Valencian and Spanish industries, the United States stands out. In the first 11 months of the year, 135,103 containers full of cargo have arrived the North American country from Valenciaport's terminals,' said Valenciaport in a statement.
China closely follows the United States as the port's third-largest customer, with 68,937 containers.
Italy moves the most freight traffic to and from Valenciaport. Through January to November 2021, commercial transactions with the country have moved 6,980,854 tonnes, with a growth of 23.36 per cent.
In terms of sectors, up to November of this year, the most active in foreign sales has been the energy sector with an increase of 57.33 per cent.The Port Authority of valencia (PAV) has also recently begun evaluating air quality levels at Valenciaport, informing the port community and residents of Valencia on key environmental parameters derived from port operations.
