ZEUS Lines Management Company, of Glyfada, Greece, owner of the Panamanian-flagged 50,057-dwt Galissas was fined US$2.25 million in Providence, Rhode Island in us District Court for knowingly discharging oily bilge during a transatlantic voyage, reports Bangalore's Marine Insight.
Under the terms of the plea agreement Zeus will pay $562,500 to National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to fund projects to benefit marine and coastal natural resources in the State of Rhode Island.
The vessel's captain pleaded guilty to failing to report a hazardous condition in the vessel's cargo tanks to the United States Coast Guard before entering the Port of Newport.
