CONTAINERISED exports from the US to 10 major countries and territories in Asia remained nearly unchanged in 2019, declining by 0.7 per cent from the previous year to 5,958,060 TEU, according to US research company Descartes Datamyne, reports Container News of Jacksonville.
By origin, exports to China suffered a double-digit contraction of 15.8 per cent to total 1,748,420 TEU. Containerised exports to Japan and South Korea improved 1.6 per cent to 744,654 TEU and 8.8 per cent to 715,050 TEU, respectively, but cargo to Taiwan and Hong Kong lost ground, by four per cent to 610,981 TEU and by 20.6 per cent to 162,637 TEU, respectively.
Containers to India and Vietnam both increased notably, with the former surging 14.3 per cent to 561,971 TEU and the latter, 16 per cent to 499,143 TEU. Volumes to Malaysia increased 43.7 per cent to 290,576 TEU. Cargo to Thailand was also up 16.8 per cent to 245,144 TEU.
