THE us military reported that it had destroyed nine anti-ship ballistic missiles and two drones in Yemen following an attack by Houthi forces on ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, reports Agence France-Presse.
US Central Command (Centcom) stated that two missiles fired by the Houthi rebels toward the Red Sea and two toward the Gulf of Aden caused no damage or injuries.
The strikes on the missiles and drones in Yemen were conducted 'to safeguard freedom of navigation and enhance the safety of international waters' for US Navy and merchant vessels.
'It was determined these weapons presented an imminent threat to merchant vessels and US Navy ships in the region,' said Centcom.
The Iran-backed Houthis have been targeting ships in the area since November, claiming solidarity with Palestinians during Israel's conflict with Hamas in Gaza.
