THE UK government has unveiled a revamped taskforce, called the Jet Zero Taskforce, aimed at steering the aviation sector towards a sustainable future, reports London's Airport Technology.
The Jet Zero Taskforce, announced by Transport Minister Louise Haigh, is expected to transform the aviation industry by aligning with national objectives to become a clean energy superpower and stimulate economic growth.
The taskforce will conduct annual CEO-level meetings led by Ms Haigh to outline priorities and monitor advancements.
The group's membership spans industries and will include Business Minister Jonathan Reynolds, Energy Minister Ed Miliband, CEOs from leading airlines and airports, fuel producers, trade bodies, and academic institutions.
The Taskforce mandate includes supporting the development and adoption of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) and zero-emission flights, along with enhancing the efficiency of aviation systems.
It will also address the broader environmental impact of aviation, including non-CO2 emissions such as vapour trails. The first meeting, scheduled for December 4, will prioritize SAF, a key component of the UK's strategy for greener flying.
UK State Transport Secretary Louise Haigh said: 'Climate change is one of the biggest challenges we face, and together with industry, I am determined to build an aviation sector that's future-ready and better for the planet.
'We need to make flying a cleaner, greener experience and the new and improved Jet Zero Taskforce will be the driving force behind this transition.'
