Transshipment of export cargoes rose 5.4 per cent year on year to 50.9 million tonnes, while imports grew by 17.6 per cent to 9.4 million tonnes, reported PortNews.
Transshipment of containers amounted to 300,000 TEU, an increase of 6.2 per cent over the first half of 2016. The volume of export containers rose 4.4 per cent to 132,900 TEU, imports at 149,200 TEU were up 4.9 per cent year on year, and transit at 17,800 TEU was up 38.9 per cent.
Almost all types of cargo recorded growth in transshipment volumes in the first half of 2017. The total volume of bulk cargo handling rose by 11.4 per cent to5.7 million tonnes, while the total volume of dry cargo amounted to 47.6 tonnes, up 8.1 per cent year on year.
Exports have traditionally recorded an increase in the transshipment of agro-sector products. Grain volumes amounted to 19.6 million tonnes, up 20 per cent, while vegetable oils at 2.9 million tonnes were up 33.8 per cent. Transshipment of metal products declined 15 per cent year over year to seven million tonnes, with ore cargo volumes down 8.6 per cent at 11.6 million tonnes.
The largest increase in imports was recorded by coal, transshipment of which amounted to 2.6 million tonnes, up 41.5 per cent in the first half of 2017.
Cabotage transit volumes amounted to 0.6 million tonnes, which is 61.4 per cent less in comparison with the same period in 2016. The main reason for the decease is the redirection of ore cargoes to the railway in connection with the restoration of the works at the site "Kamish-Zorya-Volnovaha."
The following ports recorded the largest cargo handling volumes: Yuzhny port - 22.1 million tonnes (+ 7.3 per cent year on year), Odessa - 12.3 million tonnes (+ 5.6 per cent), Nikolaev - 11.4 million tonnes (+ 6.3 per cent). The highest growth increase was recorded in the stevedore seaport of Olvia, with total volume up 35.2 per cent at 3.4 million tonnes.
