After a strong March, US transportation hiring nearly stalled in April, indicating growing caution across the sector, according to New York's FreightWaves.
The Bureau of Labour Statistics reported that trucking added just 1,400 jobs in April, a fraction of the 7,000 jobs added in March.
Revised March figures showed a decrease from 1.525 million to 1.523 million jobs, signalling that hiring momentum may be reversing.
Truck employment in April was down 3.2 per cent year-on-year and has fallen 3.9 per cent since its all-time peak in July 2022.
Analysts say the slowdown could reflect broader uncertainty about freight demand and inventory levels, even as warehousing continues to grow.
