LR2 Pioneer, Hong Kong China flagged 244 meters long tanker brought the first fuel shipment for Turkey's new airport terminal. Berthing operation, which lasted about 2 hours, was carried out by a team led by Capt. Cahit Istikbal, Chief Pilot of the Turkish Coastal Safety Administration. Capt. Istikbal carried out a simulated berthing one day before the operation, at the Simulation Center of Istanbul Technical University Maritime Faculty.The tanker, LR2 Pioneer is a Hong-Kong China flagged tanker 244 meters in length and 43 meters in width. Tenker was assisted by 3 voith-schneider tugs owned by Turkish Coastal Safety Administration, Kurtarma-3, Kurtarma 7 and Kurtarma 8. Berthing operation lasted two hours due to the limited maneouvring options enforced by the depth of the port waters.
