VIENNA International Airport (VIE) now has a second air cargo warehouse operated by Swissport International. With the new facility, the ground handler hosts a total of 7,000 square metres in warehouse space at VIE.
The new 2,100 square-foot building, built by Flughafen Wien AG, is located directly adjacent to the airfield to enable faster transportation of cargo to and from aircraft, reported New York's Air Cargo World.
Swissport said has it entered into a 'long-term lease agreement for the facility' and that it has relocated its cargo documentation to new offices in the facility.
'VIE is a growing hub airport and we are closely monitoring the developments around the airport infrastructure such as the planned additional runway,' the ground handler was quoted as saying.
The opening of this second warehouse at VIE continues Swissport's global expansions efforts over the past year, which include the acquisition of Heathrow Cargo Handling Ltd and the signing of an agreement with Fraport Group.
