SWIRE Shipping, the liner division of the China Navigation Company (CNCo), is offering a new mixed container and breakbulk service, branded the North Asia Express (NAX), that will call at ports in North Asia, Papua New Guinea (PNG) and Australia.
The company has enhanced the final rotation of the service that is scheduled to depart on its maiden voyage from Shanghai on August 4, with calls at Ningbo, Shenzhen-Shekou and Taichung planned to offer connections to Lae in PNG and Townsville in Australia, reports Alphaliner.
The NAX service will deploy two of the four 1,617-TEU multipurpose ships of the Coral Chief class currently under construction for Swire at China's Zhejiang Ouhua Shipbuilding. These vessels are part of a four-ship series ordered by Swire in March 2013. The first unit, the Coral Chief, was delivered in April.
The four vessels are capable of transporting both containerised and breakbulk cargoes thanks to a cargo compartment configuration featuring both celled and uncelled holds.
