THE sri Lankan Navy is preparing to send a warship to join the international naval force to help counter missile attacks on shipping in the Red Sea from Yemen, reports Colombo's NewsWire.lk.
The Houthis, who control the Yemeni capital, have been attacking ships with missile and drone strikes in sympathy with Hamas which have made war on Israel.
Sri Lankan Navy Capt Gayan Wickramasuriya, said they would join the fight to defend international maritime trade lanes.
He added that although the precise date of the deployment has not yet been determined, the Sri Lanka Navy vessel is being sent by a presidential directive.
