M/V Rak Africana master requested immediate assistance on March 9 2011,
reporting water ingress. 25 crew went into lifeboats and abandoned
vessel, they were rescued by Italian warship ITS Zeffiro and later
transferred to another released by pirates vessel, LPG tanker York,
which is proceeding to Mombasa Kenya. m/v Rak Africana already sank or
is sinking, details are unclear, maybe crew sank vessels themselves
after nearly a year’s captivity, as a revenge to shipowner. Or maybe
they just didn’t want to brace themselves for more efforts saving the
vessel, being too weared out by near-record long captivity.
