ELECTRIC vehicle (EV) giant BYD's new Uzbekistan plant has rolled out its first batch of plug-in hybrids off the assembly line, reports Caixin.
The Shenzhen company, the world biggest maker of plug-in EVs said it was taking its latest step in expanding into Central Asia.
The BYD Song Plus DM-i SUV is the first model to be mass produced at the plant in Jizzakh, the company said in a social media post. The facility is expected to have an initial annual production capacity of 50,000 units, which will be primarily sold in the Central Asian market, it said.
The factory, BYD's first overseas plant to be up and running for passenger car production, is part of a joint venture with local auto giant Uzavtosanoat JSC signed in December 2022. The two companies agreed to initially produce two popular BYD hybrid models at the plant, with the second model being the BYD Chazor.
