THE Sedona-Oak Creek Airport Authority (SOC) - in partnership with aviation fuel supplier, Avfuel Corporation, and the airport's fixed base operator (FBO), Red Rock Aviation - has announced that sedona Airport now offers sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), reports London's Biofuels International.
The mid-state airport is Avfuel's first location to offer SAF in the state of Arizona, positioning it as a leader in eco-conscious aviation operations. While the fuel is available for sale to general aviation operations, it is also used to support the region's aerial firefighting activities, providing a cleaner alternative to help protect nearby communities and the beautiful surrounding wilderness, said the company.
The authority's airport manager, Ed Rose, said: 'SAF is a safe, proven and sustainable blend of jet fuel that will help the Sedona Airport be a good neighbour and do its part to reduce the overall production of greenhouse gasses.'
The fuel - produced by Neste in Long Beach, California, and branded as Neste MY Sustainable Aviation FuelTM - averages one of the highest blend ratios available in business aviation to date (30/70 SAF to petroleum-based jet fuel). Each 8,000-gallon truckload delivery provides a 19-tonne reduction in carbon emissions over the fuel's lifecycle.
Avfuel, headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan, has supplied Sedona Airport's Red Rock Aviation since 2022.
