SEASPAN Corp has ordered ten 7,000-TEU vessels from a Chinese yard, taking its order book for the last ten months to 70 ships, a total capacity of 839,000 TEU, reports London's Loadstar.
The portfolio includes two 24,000-TEU Ultra Large Container Vessels (ULCV), and twenty-five 7,000-TEU ships with 15 dual-fuelled Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) powered ships.
The latest US$1 billion newbuild order will see deliveries begin in Q2 2024, running through to the final quarter.
The vessels will be leased to Japanese carrier ONE on long-term charters for 12 years, which seaspan expects to generate revenue of $1.4 billion.
'With our previously announced order of 15 dual-fuelled, 7,000-TEU vessels, this newbuild order is further evidence of the deep customer demand for this vessel size, which is uniquely suited to replace the global fleet's aging cohort of 4,000 to 9,000-TEU vessels.' said Seaspan CEO Bing Chen.
