THE Port of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia's biggest container gateway, handled 2.06 million TEU in the first half of the year, higher than the 2.03 million TEU recorded over the same period in 2017.
Jeddah's transshipment volumes rose to 1.03 million TEU in the first half of this year, up from 866,000 TEU last year.
The Port of Dammam on the Saudi Gulf coast registered a year-on-year decline of 8.5 per cent after handling 750,000 TEU in the first six month of the year compared with 814,000 TEU in the same period last year, reported Dubai's Maritime Standard.
Jubail commercial port, another Saudi Gulf facility, has continued to see strong growth in container volumes. In 1H 2018 it handled 345,000 TEU, an increase of 23 per cent compared to the 280,000 TEU recorded in the equivalent months of 2017.
