In the morning of Feb 23 at 6 a.m. work commenced to loosen the anchors of the "Tide Carrier". The operation had to be stopped the previous evening due to strong winds. The ship has been secured overnight by two anchors and the two tugs "BB Server" and "BB Borgøy" to prevent it from drifting closer to shore. The latter tug had arrived at 8 p.m. and managed to establish a towing connection at 9.15 p.m. The ship owner had signed a salvage contract with Bukser og Berging. Three Coastguard vessels were near the ship to monitor the situation, and the "Bergen" was commander on scene. Both the Coastguard depot in Kristiansand and the Intermunicipal acute pollution in Rogaland have been notified. There were 17 people on board the ship, among them two pilots from the Coastal Administration to control the situation. The weather has improved, and the Coastguard meanwhilke started towing the ship off the coast. At 7.15 a.m. the operation commenced. Meanwhile the operation changed from being a salvage operation to an ordinary tow. The convoy was heading to Åmøyfjorden. Meanwhile it turned out that the ship had left the port without carrying out a required inspection. The "Tide Carrier" has been laid for ten years. DNV GL pulled all class certificates immediately. In the register of the DNV-GL (formerly The Norwegian Veritas) the "Tide Carrier" was on the list of ships that had confiscated classifications. The classification was revoked on Feb 14, last week, the ship has been renamed "Eide Carrier". The ship lost all their class certificates because it has been laid up for a longer period. There is a possibility that the owner Eide Marine Services AS has registered the ship in another classification society, but DNV-GL has no information regarding this. The ship was transferred to the Julia Shipping Inc. in Charlestown, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and registered under the Comoros flag. The crew of 20 was mainly Indian and one Russian. The vessel had about 600 m3 heavy oil and over 300 m3 diesel on board.
