Russian sailors of detained ship on hunger strike in Istanbul
Russian sailors from the ship Streamline, which has been detained in Istanbul since June, have declared a hunger strike and are demanding that the shipowner’s company pay off the salary debts.
RIA Novosti informs about this with reference to the captain of the vessel Bakhman Bagirov.
“Our crew of 10 people who are not paid salary for five months, went on a hunger strike. Appealed to all possible instances, the result - zero. The ongoing legal process, which allegedly interferes with the payment of salaries, is an excuse for the shipowner company Akca Shipping, ”he said.
Bagirov said that the shipowner owed the sailors about $ 90 thousand.
According to him, the crew does not leave the cargo ship, as it fears losing the chances of paying off debts.
In October, the head of the shipowner Akca Shipping, Jezmi Akcha, stated that the salary arrears to the crew members would be paid within a month. According to him, it will be done at the end of the trial.
