MALAYSIAN authorities detected a radioactive leak near a cargo terminal of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport last Thursday, reported Japan's NHK public broadcaster.
A local fire and rescue department received a report about a suspected radioactive leak. It said that a team from the department detected the leak from a box that contained what appeared to be medical equipment.
It was sent from the island of Borneo by freight. The box was sent to a government institute handling nuclear materials for close examination.
The incident forced the suspension of operations at the cargo terminal and the evacuation of staff and others. There are no reports of any impact on passenger flights.
