PSA international broke ground on a 2.4 million TEU capacity addition at India's Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), meant to supplement its first phase development that began in early 2018, reports IHS Media.
The terminal was awarded a 30-year concession for the public-private partnership project in 2014, including a total investment of US$1 billion.
Each phase of the Bharat Mumbai Container Terminals (BMCT) has been designed with three berths, sporting a 1,000-metre quay able to accommodate 16,000 to 18,000 TEU vessels.
Work on BMCT's Phase II was to have begun in December 2019 on a three-year completion plan along with the original concession timeline.
The second phase is now targeted for completion in April 2025.
psa Mumbai ended fiscal year 2021-22 on a solid note that saw volume grow 33 per cent year over year to 1.24 million TEU.
