CONTAINER throughput at the port of Santos during the first eight months of 2021 grew 20 per cent, reaching 3.2 million TEU, reports Colchester's Seatrade Maritime News.
Total year-to-date cargo movement reached 101 million tonnes, an increase of 3.1 per cent compared to 2020.
In August, there was a reduction 8 per cent for the number of calls compared to 2020, with 391 calls versus 425 calls.
In the first eight months of this year, there was a drop of 1.9 per cent, with 3,242 calls compared to 3,305 in the same period of 2020.
Liquid bulk was 0.3 per cent higher than the same period last year, accumulating 12.1 million tonnes in 2021, the best record of the period.
Diesel oil shipments were up 45.8 per cent, followed by fuel oil up 26.1 per cent, and citrus juices up 27.6 per cent.
Solid bulks fell 4.6 per cent in the accumulated in the eight months of the year to 50.4 million tonnes, compared to 2020.
Fertiliser imports increased 22.6 per cent for the year 39.3 per cent in August. Total Imports grew 25 per cent, while exports decreased 23.2 per cent.
