Pilot boat assisted reefer in Vestfjord
The "Green Atlantic" suffered an engine failure in the afternoon of Mar 2, 2015, around 4 p.m. in the Vest Fjord south of Tennholman in Lødingen waters and started to drift towards shallow waters in southern winds.
The pilot boat "Los 107" was dispatched from Lødingen to assist, took the ship in tow at 4.30 p.m. and managed to pull it to deep waters, while the crew managed to fix problem. After the engine was started again at 6 p.m., the ship resumed its voyage out of the fjord towards Træna.
The "Green Atlantic" could not drop anchor to prevent drifting, fearing it might have damaged several underwater cables.
Already in the afternoon Feb 16, the reefer suffered an engine breakdown off Leirvik with 2,200 tons frozen fish from Tromsø and Maloy on board o and dropped anchor.
It was found out that a cylinder top had shifted.
The crew had spare parts on board and managed to repair the damage within some hours. The ship berthed in Koparvik on Feb 17 before heading to Klaipeda.
