THE Port of New York and New Jersey moved a total of 709,469 TEU in April, a 9.4 per cent increase as year-to-date volume rose to 2.7 million TEU.
April imports were up nine per cent totalling 349,792 TEU against 320,948 TEU in April 2023. From January through April, imports at the Port of New York and New Jersey rose by 13 per cent, reaching 1.38 million TEU. Imports were 1.2 million TEU in the same period of 2023.
Exports increased 10.5 per cent in April 2024 compared to the previous year, totalling 121,847 TEU (65,387 containers) and 110,243 TEU (59,687 containers) in April 2023.
From January through April, the Port of New York and New Jersey exported 446,100 TEU (238,948 containers), a 1.6 per cent increase from the 439,128 TEU (237,680 containers) recorded in the same period of 2023.
Export empties totalled 235,500 TEU in April, a 9.6 per cent increase from the 214,938 TEU recorded the previous April. From @FAXTEXT = January through April, export empties rose by 13.4 per cent, totalling 877,903 TEU in 2024 from 774,480 TEU in 2023. Import empties rose 34.7 per cent from January through April 2024 versus the same period in 2023.
April's rail volume increased by 3.8 per cent from the previous year's figure, totalling 53,547 containers. Rail volume from January through April was 6.8 per cent greater than in the same period of 2023.
Last October, French shipping giant CMA CGM officially renamed the two terminals in New York and New Jersey, which it purchased from Global Container Terminals (GCT) earlier this year.
More recently, its unit Bollore Logistics and Sarcona developed a new sustainable last-mile logistics solution utilising an electric vehicle between New Jersey and New York.
