THE Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) in October handled 1.2 per cent more cargo via ExpressRail than in the previous October, when a record setting 658,708 TEU was posted in 2018, reported Milwaukee's Progressive Railroading.
The numbers also represent the third largest cargo volume handled in any month in the port's history, PANYNJ officials said.
Also in October, the port's ExpressRail system set a new record by handling 57,722 containers, an increase of one per cent over the 57,197 containers handled during the same month last year.
Through the first 10 months of 2019, the port handled 6,286,762 TEU, a record for the 10-month period and five per cent above last year's record period.
