NYK wraps up winter safety campaign after visiting ships and crew
NYK Group has announced the completion of its Sail On Safety winter safety campaign, which ran from December 1 until January 31, 2013.
The campaign has been conducted annually since 2004 as part of the shipping and logistics group's "proactive measures to prevent accidents that are more likely to occur due to the turbulent seas that are more common during the winter months," a release said.

During this year's campaign, 434 group members, including executives, visited 264 ships to improve communication between onboard crew and onshore staff by sharing the latest data about each vessel and exchanging views on safe ship operations.
To date, 1,691 vessel visits have been made "to encourage smooth communication and mutual understanding between onboard crew and onshore staff, and thus bring everyone together in a united effort to increase safety awareness."
Safe ship operations and environmental activities were focal points throughout 2012, to share with related parties the potential dangers that vessels face at sea, it said.
