NYK highlighted the role of a shipping company and the responsibilities of seafarers at a forum sponsored by a committee promoting maritime education to young people in Japan as part of the Mirai project.
Before a group of 30 that included high school students, university students and local residents, an NYK engineer spoke about the role of the shipping industry, provided an outline of a large vessel, compared transportation by ship with that of aircraft, held a quiz on the various kinds of vessels, and explained about the life and duties of navigators and engineers on board a ship.
NYK said it 'looks forward to continuing the NYK Mirai project to encourage interest in seafaring among children.'
Launched at the end of 2014, the Mirai project consists of a series of activities that nurture greater awareness of maritime matters and seafaring life among Japan's youth, so that they can develop an interest in the maritime industry and consider careers at shipping companies.
