MEXICO's Port of Manzanillo, the country's busiest container port, posted a 18.2 per cent year-on-year increase in throughput to 1.27 million TEU from January through April this year, reports New York's FreightWaves.
Meanwhile, mexican seaports moved a record 2.95 million TEU during the first four months of 2024, according to statistics from Mexico's General Coordination of Ports and Merchant Marine. That also represented an 18.2 per cent year-on-year increase.
Mexico's nine Pacific Coast ports handled the majority of container movements from January through April, totalling 2.14 million TEU, a 19 per cent increase.
Mexico's two largest Pacific coast ports - Manzanillo and Lazaro Cardenas - recorded a 14.5 per cent increase to 1.27 million TEU and 35 per cent increase to 711,148 TEU respectively.
The Pacific coast port of Mazatlan reported a 39 per cent increase during the first four months of 2024, with 12,221 TEU.
Mexico's Gulf coast ports reported a total 795,337 TEU from January through April, a 14.3 per cent increase.
The Port of Veracruz was Mexico's busiest Gulf coast container port during the period, totalled 424,949 TEU, a rise of 21 per cent.
