Mersin International Port (MIP), one of the leading ports of the Mediterranean, put into service the environmentally friendly MIP-5 Tugboat, a first in Türkiye, with a budget of 250 million TL, at a ceremony.Mediterranean Regional Garrison Commander Rear Admiral Murat Fırat, Mersin Deputy Governor and Mersin Port Administrative İbrahim Küçük, MIP General Manager Ajay Kumar Singh, Coastal Safety Mersin Director Adnan Bilen, city protocol members and MIP employees attended the ceremony held on May 22 at the port area. .The state-of-the-art new generation tugboat, MIP-5, has 75 tons of traction power and two high-efficiency 3516E diesel engines, each capable of producing 1,600 rpm and 2,200 kW of power. It makes a difference by being significantly more powerful than tugboats. In this way, it can quickly carry out all port operations, including the handling of the largest container ships up to 400 meters.MIP-5, which is 24.4 meters long, 12 meters wide and has a draft of 5.5 meters, is equipped with the FIFI-1 fire extinguishing system and the highest level deck/machine equipment that can respond to a possible fire in the port area or at sea. MIP-5, which has a Selective Catalytic Oxide Reactor (SCR) that reduces Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) emissions by up to 75 percent compared to normal diesel-powered tugboats, fully complies with the International Maritime Organization Environmental Protection Emission (IMO Tier III) standards to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions.
