OMAN's Port of Salalah achieved a 19 per cent year-on-year increase in 2019 volume topping four million TEU, reports the Times of Oman.
The port, run by Maerk's APM Terminals, is almost fully recovered from the damage caused by Cyclone Mekunu that hit southern Oman in May, killing a 12-year-girl and leaving three other people injured.
The port has not only managed to recover all the services and volumes that were re-directed to other ports in the region after the cyclone, but has also shown a growth of over 19 per cent over previous year's volume, said the report.
Simultaneously the port also achieved numerous milestones in productivity and as part of its digital transformation, has successfully deployed the State of the Art Terminal Operating System (TOS) N4, said the report.
Said Port of Salalah CEO Mark Hardiman: 'We are proud of the achievement of the team. The success is a testament to the confidence and the continued support that the port enjoys from the Government of Oman and its customers and to the employees of the port whose commitment has been critical in reaching this important milestone.'
