MACAO's container cargo transported via land routes rose in the first half, while container sea and air traffic declined, data released by the special administrative region's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) showed.
In the first six months of the year, the gross weight of container cargo moved via land routes grew by 21.6 per cent year on year to 8,823 tonnes, and laden containers soared by 37 per cent to 1,560 tonnes, reported Xinhua.
The gross weight of container cargo transported via land routes in June dropped by 4.7 per cent compared to the same month last year to 1,479 tonnes, of which cargo passing through the Cotai checkpoint decreased by 3.9 per cent to 1,424 tonnes.
In the first half of the year, the gross weight of container port cargo declined 7.3 per cent year on year to 74,610 tonnes, with laden containers down 2.4 per cent to 45,108 TEU.
The gross weight of container port cargo in June fell by 18.1 per cent year on year to 12,557 tonnes, with cargo handled at the inner harbour falling by 14.1 per cent to 6,782 tonnes. Port laden container throughput totalled 7,521 TEU, after dropping four per cent.
Macao's international airport handled 18,375 tonnes of air freight in the first half of the year, down three per cent compared to the same period in 2018. In June, the airport handled 3,135 tonnes of air cargo, up 10.2 per cent.
