FOUR 20,150 TEU containerships ordered by Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) from Korea's Samsung Heavy Industries are to be classified by Lloyd's Register.
A total of six ultra large boxships were ordered by the Japanese shipping giant at the beginning of March. The other two vessels are to be built at the Imabari shipyard in Japan, reported Sliven, Bulgaria's Vessel Finder.
The six vessels are to be deployed on the Asia-Europe tradelane. They are scheduled for launching and delivery in 2017.
"We are delighted with the trust that the MOL placed in LR to help make sure that safety and performance aspects of these vessels are up to standard," said LR marine marketing director Luis Benito.
"These containerships are the largest ever to be contracted. Their innovative design is going to incorporate all the latest technology regarding operational as well as environmental performance."
