The Sinokor bulker "Pacific Carrier" which had been damaged in a collision in 2011 has snapped in two in the typhoon Bolaven on Aug 28, 2012, off South Korea.
The "Pacific Carrier" broke up at Samchonpo anchorage, near Sacheon, after it broke its moorings and was driven ashore.
It had been put into lay-up after being badly damaged in a collision with the 5,700–teu boxship "Hyundai Confidence" in December.
No pollution has resulted from the break-up. Reports of a 40,000-ton coal cargo still aboard the vessel have been denied. The crew was taken off by the marine police with fallreeps.
