A kansas businessman has admitted to illegally exporting sensitive aviation technology to Russian companies, violating US sanctions, reports the Associated Press.
Douglas Edward Robertson, from Olathe, Kansas, is the second local executive to plead guilty to charges including smuggling, money laundering, and conspiring against the US.
Their arrests, alongside a Latvian associate in March 2023, occurred as the US intensified sanctions on Russia following its February 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
Mr Robertson, 56, entered his plea on Tuesday before US District Judge Daniel Crabtree in Kansas City. Sentencing is scheduled for October 3.
Mr Robertson faces up to 20 years in prison for either the money laundering or export violations convictions, having pleaded guilty to four of the 26 counts against him.
In October 2020, the defendants sold electronics, including threat detection systems and navigation controls, to Russian aircraft parts distributors and repair firms.
They disguised their activities using companies and bank accounts in various countries, including Armenia, Cyprus, Germany, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and the UAE.
