JSW Infrastructure plans to invest US$18 million to expand container capacity at New Mangalore Port Trust, reports New Delhi's Economic Times.
Through its subsidiary, jsw Mangalore Container Terminal Private Limited, the company aims to raise the total capacity from 240,000 TEU to 400,000 TEU.
This expansion comes in response to the projected growth in container traffic, which is expected to increase five to eight per cent between 2023-2028.
Non-major ports are also anticipated to contribute 100 to 130 million tonnes of capacity between fiscal years 2023-2027, according to a Crisil report.
The modernisation efforts will include a backup area of 65,000 square meters for container storage and equipment such as six reach stackers, an empty container handler, and two mobile harbour cranes.
