The rescue operation for the sunken tugboat JMS Delta on Yangtze River off Jingjiang has ended, with 22 people confirmed dead in the accident, according to Jiangsu Maritime Safety Administration.
The 22 people include 14 Chinese workers, a Japanese worker from Niigata Power Systems, two Singaporeans and one Indonesian from Jurong Marine Services, two Singaporeans from POET Shipbuilding, and another two victims from Malaysia and India.
Preliminary investigations shows that the vessel started the trial without getting approval from the authorities.
The tugboat was ordered by Singaporen company Paci Ocean Engineering Trading and was supposed to be chartered to Jurong Marine Services upon completion.
